We are not looking for safe fiction.

We are looking for writers who understand that a story is a covenant — that it asks something real of the reader because the writer put something real on the page. If you are crafting that kind of work, Outlaw Star Press wants to hear from you.

We do not publish message fiction. We do not publish work that flattens human beings into caricatures. We publish stories where something genuine is at stake — where the protagonist earns what he becomes, and the reader finishes the book feeling like they remembered something they’d forgotten.

What We Publish

Fiction That Takes Men Seriously

OSP publishes fiction centered on masculine experience, traditional virtues, and storytelling that doesn’t apologize for having something to say. Bold without being crude. Literary without being soft. Purposeful without being preachy.

We have a particular interest in work exploring courage, honor, discipline, loyalty, and sacrifice — not as themes to be interrogated, but as values to be lived.

We welcome New Mexico and Southwest voices, and writers who understand what it means to write from a specific place with specific weight.

Do you charge submission fees?
No. Submissions are always free.
Can I submit if I’m not a male author?
We publish fiction for men, written by writers who understand and respect that mission. We evaluate manuscripts on whether the work is right for our catalog, not solely on author identity.
Do you accept simultaneous submissions?
Yes. If your manuscript is accepted elsewhere, please notify us promptly.
Can I submit multiple manuscripts?
Yes — but please submit each separately and allow time between submissions.
What happens after I submit?
You’ll receive a confirmation. We read every submission and respond within 4–6 weeks. We give honest feedback when we can.
What do you mean by “no message fiction”?
We mean the story comes first. Characters exist to live, not to prove a point. If the agenda is visible through the prose, the craft has failed. We’re looking for writers who trust the story to carry the meaning.
